I usually get it shaved with a #4 at the sides and back and cut with scissors up top to match. How long would it take to look more like the haircut I usually get just described assuming my hair grows at the average rate?

The AVERAGE person grows 1/2 inch in one month. Some people of course, grow slower, and some lucky ones, grow faster. Depends on where you fall, but those are the averages. You can bump it up a bit by taking vitamins that are hight in amino acids, calcium/magnesium, biotin and B's.
In your question, are you saying that you are wanting to shave it all off, and how long will it take to grow back to a 4 and an 8? Or is your hair longer, and you are planning on shaving it down to a 4 and an 8? Need more info, please.
