Toddler's first hair cut?

It's finally time for my 3-1/2 year old baby girl to get a haircut. Her hair is long, down to her butt, it's beautiful but it's such a pain to wash, brush and fix. Everyone knows a 3-yr old hates being still. Any tips on how to make this fun and easy for everyone involved? Also, I've been told cutting her hair will make it grow back thicker...is this true?

I'm a hairdresser and a nanny. From my experience you just need to make it as fun as possible. Bring a favorite toy or book. If she can sit on your lap that would be great. There are some salons that specialize in children and they oftentimes will have fun chairs or things for the kids to play with. A reward for being a good girl is also great. I take my little one to Jamba Juice after a haircut.

There's a Sesame Street episode that she saw that got her really excited. A character's hair gets too long and she can't eat because it's in her soup. Totally cute. : )

go to supercuts or something... they will let her sit on your lap and stuff. but go in the morning, when no one else is there.

and no, it wont grow back thicker.

Shaving a kids head makes the hair grow back thicker (think of shaving your legs, hair gets thicker).

As for getting her to hold still, they will typically give the munchkins a sucker before or after the hair cut if they are good. Also, most hair salons are quite good at working with kids and have their own tricks. They will work it out so don't worry too much.

With each of my children I took them to a salon for children where they sit in toy cars and watch cartoons while the hairdressers goes about cuts. They then had a picture of them holding their "my first cut" certificate and I got a laminated curl for a keepsake. I'm in Dublin but perhaps there is something similiar near you, ask other mums.

Im a hairstylist and theres really nothing you can do but just make them feel comfortable, ive had a lot of times where a little child that age will be sooo happy to come in and get a haircut and once they sit down they are bawling haha, so just try to make her comfortable, and NO YOUR HAIR DOES NOT GROW BACK THICKER i didnt spend 11 months in cosmetology school to be told that it doesnt haha

Toddler's first hair cut?

not thicker

but im sure it needs a trim if you have never had it done before but it will grow longer after you cut it so think about that when you pick how you want it cut.

take her to a haircut place in the mall. some malls have kid hair cut places with cars and cool airplane things to sit in while getting a hair cut. it keeps the child entertained and helps ease the child's anxiety from the change.
